As part of the national campaign introducing routine vaccination against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in 2024, the Mongolian Public Health Professionals Association (MHPHA) organized a training on “Interpersonal Communication.” This training was conducted across nine districts of Ulaanbaatar city and targeted doctors, nurses of family health centers, school doctors, and social workers. Nearly 460 specialists participated in the sessions, which were held from October 30 to November 18, 2024. The training aimed to introduce professionals to the fundamental concepts and principles of communication to enhance HPV vaccine coverage. It sought to drive social and behavioral change while equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively communicate with the public, including vaccine skeptics and opponents.
The curriculum and methodology of the training were developed with the support of the UNICEF and since 2023, the association has cooperated in testing and adapting the program in Mongolia, translating it into native language, and organizing training courses for trainers.
The participants of the training were satisfied with the content, methodology and skills of the trainers and evaluated that the training was very helpful in overcoming the obstacles they may face in their future work.
